What is a room rent limit?

A cap on your daily room charge — and a trap that can shrink your whole claim, not just the room bill.

What it is

A room rent limit caps the daily hospital room charge the policy will cover, often as a rupee amount or a percentage of the sum insured per day.

The proportionate-deduction trap

If you take a room above the limit, many policies don't just cap the room — they scale down associated charges (doctor fees, procedures) in the same proportion. A small room overage can cut your whole claim.

How to protect yourself

Know your room-rent limit before admission and pick a room within it where you can. If a proportionate deduction was applied, check that it was calculated correctly against the policy wording.
